Hello All, Flame Thrower Mike here. I just would like to give everybody a little insight as to how Flame Thrower BBQ & Chili Co. got it's start
As most of you know, I was in the Fire Service and after 32 years I retired. I found my LOVE of cooking there.
Trying new stuff on my crews with each new meal I prepared. I was always seemed to be intrigued by BBQ and even at an early age. I used to watch my father who had a Komodo Hibachi type grill. In the early 2000s my Wife Cindy and I started a Chili Competition team. Nightmare on Elm Street Chili team was born. We competed for
several years and We were fortunate enough to win the 1st Annual Chili competition at Woodbridge Winery which has now become a major event. Soon after that, Nightmare On Elm Street took a turn. But I still had the competitive side of cooking in me. In 2011 our Son Justin (who Is a firefighter as well) asked if I would like to do a Fathers Day Chili cook off. Contra Costa County Fire happened to be hosting this event. And you Guessed what the answer was! HAHAHA
Soon after that we started seeing BBQ Rib competitions available to enter in different areas . I entered our 1st competition at Fat City Grillers Supply on a borrowed trailer and That's when I started making my own rubs. Every competition I would make fresh assorted rubs. The rubs at the time were not consistent with each competition. We placed in a few and tanked in a few.
We just couldn't imagine what the problem was what was. Then one day Cindy said to me, "hey Dumb A$$, Why don't you try measuring the ingredients! WOW ! What a novel idea that was.
From then, next 2 years I would measure all of the ingredients and cook with them. We had gone through a lot of meat at that time in which a lot of it would have to be tossed away because it was either to salty, to peppery or just not to our liking. All of a sudden low and behold we finally hit it with our flagship Sweet Rub!! We started doing much better at the competitions that we had entered and also started to add some heat. A new rub was born named Sweet Heat and then with Sweet Heat we started competing in the 4 different meat competitions. Then we came up with the Beef Rub. Cindy wanted a little pop to the Beef Rub and that's how we ended up with Mama's Blend. Go figure that is our most popular rub. From then, started the Flame Thrower line of rubs.
Today, we have customers all over the United States and our products are in many stores as well. We have sent our rubs to National and International competitions and have placed very well and we are sponsors of several Competition Teams.
Our Beef Rub was #7 in the Nation in 2015. All of our other rubs were also nationally ranked. So we hope that you will enjoy
our rubs as much as we do and as much as we enjoy making them for you. Our rubs contain NO MSG, or Anti Caking agents. They are always freshly made. Myself and Cindy Hope to hear from you soon with all of your orders.
